Still not sure if Mind Body Babies is right for you? Here are some frequently asked questions.
A Mind Body Babies course is personalised to your needs and takes place in the comfort of your own home, allowing you to feel relaxed and at ease. The course is informative and practical whilst also offering you a supportive and open space to listen, share and talk through any concerns you may have. The aim of this course, is to leave you feeling empowered, excited and positive about your upcoming birth.
Hypnobirthing is antenatal education that focuses on how the female body works during labour, how a mother can work with and trust in her body and creating calm and relaxation during birth. The other great thing about Hypnobirthing is that it's very inclusive of any birth partner, providing knowledge, confidence and support.
I always recommend that Birth Partners take part in the course if possible so they understand what is happening during the birth process, what a Mother might need and how they can best support her. This way they can play an active role and feel part of the experience. It's very normal for a Birth Partner to feel skeptical and I'm happy to talk through any concerns or answer any questions.
A Birth Doula is a non-medical support person who can offer you emotional and physical support during pregnancy, labour, birth and even after baby is born.
A Birth Doula will meet with you and your Birth Partner multiple times before the birth to understand your needs and wishes, talk you through what to expect during your birth (and what your options are), how your birth partner can support you and to help set you both up for a positive birth experience.
A Birth Doula will usually set up a contact group with yourself and your Birth Partner to offer extra support and answer any questions you may have during pregnancy.
Once you are in labour, they will usually start with support via message or phone and will then be with you as soon as you need them. They will offer emotional and physical support, keep parents informed, be their advocate during the birth of their baby and hold space by being a calm and reassuring presence. A Birth Doula doesn't take the place of any Birth Partner, instead can offer them breaks, support them when they need and can relay any information to and from medical professionals.
During pregnancy a Birth Doula will offer antenatal education, get to know you and your birth partner, find out what support you would like and understand your birth vision.
Antenatally a Midwife will provide you with a care plan including labour and birth, undertake regular assessments of you and your baby's wellbeing (including taking your blood pressure, taking bloods, checking your urine, ensuring baby is growing well and arranging for any scans or further screening) and refer you to any specialists should you need.
During your birth a Birth Doula is there to offer both emotional and physical support, offer breaks to your birth partner when needed, provide encouragement and advocate for both parents. They will also make sure you are comfortable after baby is born and also check to see how feeding is going (whatever method you choose to use).
A Midwife's main role when you are in labour, is to look after Mum and Baby, ensuring they are medically healthy and safe. Once in active labour, they will check on you and baby as often as needed, provide you information to make decisions (depending on what is happening during your birth), administer any pain relief (or arrange for this), ensure baby is moving down the birth canal well and help guide baby out when they are ready to be born. After the birth of baby they will ensure you and baby are ok, that baby is feeding well and carry out all necessary checks.
